Beyond 5 Nylon Drawstring Tote Bag Printing

Last week, we were asked to help the amazingly talented teenager-group BEYOND 5 with their merch. Since we have printed most of their merch in the past, most of it was just simple reorder stuff (mixtures of multi colored Tshirts and tank tops, jersey zip up hoodies, tote bags). But, this time they added another addition: The drawstring backpack tote bag. These bags are made of 100% nylon, which is super soft, durable, washable and keeps its form for a very long time.

Now, nylon bags are kind of a nightmare for screen printers, considering that they are made primarily of plastic and their tolerance to heat is VERY low (meaning they burn, or should I say melt, very easily). Our belt dryer, on normal operation, usually heats at around 400˚ for over a minute. These particular bags, at 400˚, would melt in a matter of seconds. So, our belt dryer was NOT an option here.

We decided to print them with waterbased ink, to print the first color and then in order to make them look perfect, we hand dryed it with a forced air hand dryer. This was VERY time consuming (seeing that we did over 300 pieces of these), but they dried in the air and end result was amazing! They looked great. You can get one of these bags at a Beyond 5 show, where they are currently shooting them into the crowd out of a Tshirt cannon. Maybe you can be the lucky one to get one! :)

Hand Printed Apparel Hang Tags

Sometimes its better to do even the simplest of things yourself. DIY projects not only keep us more creative and at the top of our game, but also end up being very unique and really show with our style of work. Sure, we can have a

That's the thought process over at Tavin. This small bohemian retail shop is located in Echo Park in the heart of the trendy neighborhood that makes up Echo Park Blvd. This store is definitely inspired by world travel and a very unique style of apparel design in Los Angeles. Because they are a unique clothing store, they like to produce their hang tags with a hand made feel. That is where Print Renegades comes in.

We start with blank apparel tags (made of natural colored manilla colored cardstock) and we are able to print 14 tags at a time. We have to print on pallet tape so that we know where to align these cards, but once that's done, we are able to print away!

Each tag double sided, so each requires double the time and double the work, but because each of the 14 cards are different, we are able to produce a wide variety of cards with different photos and quotes on them. In the end, this is a quick and inexpensive way to have a very unique hang tag for a product that people love, especially when that product has its own unique properties itself!

DamnSon! Custom Printed Shipping Boxes

Most times, smaller apparel brands think that its much to expensive to have their own customized boxes printed up..."This is something that Nordstrom or Nike does, but not my small brand" they think. They are rashly mistaken.

The guys over at DamnSon! have a really great thing going. Based out of Salt Lake City, they run their music and art website promoting new acts with their keenly amiable phrase "Do What You Love". Print Renegades has been doing their apparel for a year or so now, and they really wanted to seem more professional in their presentation of sold merchandise that got shipped out to their clients. Enter custom shipping boxes.

These boxes were printed using a soft waterbased ink. Although the boxes are slightly large in size, the reason why its not very costly is because we are able to flat print them as a single color print, making it simple and easy for us to print, then when the box is folded up, each panel looks like it was separately printed. Professional and classy, yet inexpensive and affordable for those who think this isn't budget-friendly for them to do.

If you are a clothing brand, owner of a start up, artist, restaurant or you sell band merch online, making custom boxes will always add presentation value to your final product. Leave it to Print Renegades to up the value of your organization. Its our business to make your business OUR business!! :)

Margin's Imprint "Nadis" Prints

Although Margin's Imprint is known for their Moon Calendars that they make every year, they also are very involved in alot of experimental print making, and we are usually their guinea pigs that help them with the creative processes involved with making these things become a reality.

From smaller sized multicolored prints to very large gradient printed posters, we help them with an array of different projects that help them keep the true essence of Margins alive.

These "Nadis" prints derive from the idea of energy points in our body, and these prints were done on super thick Bangladesh style handmade paper. This particular run was with a few different colors of paper stock, and a slight color change of the ink as well. The prints are very large, and use a lot of ink but have a really great feel of the true meaning of this artwork!

Street Art Promotion at its finest...

At times, going down the traditional road of marketing is the best option. Google and Facebook have some of the worlds largest reaches to the most amount of people, and setting up a marketing campaigns with them usually create a lot of buzz about your brand or company.

At other times, hitting the streets with your own personal rugged campaign brings a completely different style of buzz to your brand or company. This is usually done best with true street artists who can help you maneuver the streets at night safely and most effectively.

Print Renegades sometimes hits the streets with art, creating a wider array of visual artistic pleasure when driving through the city. This is always done with other experienced artistic individuals, and is always done only on property that we own or get permission to specifically use.

Step 1: Making the posters - since we have a print shop ourselves, we dont have to go the traditional route of going to Kinkos to have things printed. We just print them ourselves.

STEP 2: Making the wheatpaste - this step an be found on multiple sites online, or if you want to just buy the premixed stuff at Home Depot, look for "wallpaper paste", which is usually the best. (mix about 1 parts water to 1 parts paste to make it more watery, best for street use).

STEP 3: Putting them up in the streets - For most, this would be the most difficult part, as this is not completely legal. Since we only put up on our own building OR others that we know who give us permission, this is not that difficult of a thing at all! :)
