Stamina Nutrition Mylar Protein Powder Bag Printing

Stamina is a nutrition store based out of Los Angeles, helping people reach their fitness goals. They focus on top quality supplements free from growth hormones, artificial colors, flavors, and sweeteners. Nothing but clean energy to fuel your body!
 
Stamina came in with a wonderful idea to screen print their supplement bags. The Print Renegades team was ready to take on this project. A two color print would normally be simple, however, printing on Mylar bags requires an intense and extremely intricate ink that bonds with the foil outside of the bag. (we tested 4 different types of enamel inks before taking on this job to make sure that we were using the correct ink that would never fade, wash off, scratch off or wear down over time). The other element here was the size of the text on the back of the bag: given that the text was extremely detailed, we had to be very meticulous to make sure every print was a success. 

The bags turned out great, not only will the goods inside help you reach your fitness goals, you'll be rocking a great hand screen printed bag while doing it! 

Westwood Music Sign Printing

Westwood Music is the local music store of the West LA area that has all of the small town local guitar shop feel with none of the corporate guitar shop feel. It might be a time warp back to the 1990s when you walk in, but there is no question that you get addressed by a REAL guitar player who knows about every single guitar hanging in that shop and loves what they do and isnt only there to sell sell sell.

WW Music needed some new signs for their store, so they called us to help them with out with getting better signage for their windows. We suggested printing on coroplast signs, since this corrugated plastic material is inexpensive, is durable and lasts thru years of sunlight (which is what their signs will be through sitting in a window for ages). We decided on 4 different signs, each with a different saying on one side and their logo on the other.

Not only is printing on coroplast difficult, as well as printing large format, but doing single sample signs is extremely time consuming and complex: all of which these signs required us to complete. We were able to cut these signs down from a larger plastic, then by using the specialized coroplast ink we could lay down a thick white print, and air dry them until they were ready for delivery. These signs now hang in the windows of Westwood with all their shiny, printed white glory! :)

Hardcore Til I Die Booty Shorts

Our friends over at Rave Ready have some awesome things going: rave clothing for the EDM at heart. They have a great niche market and do really well for what they do. From a printers perspective, they are always trying new and crazy things, really wanting to push the boundaries and putting us printers to the test by pushing the limits of our knowledge at all times.

This last job they wanted to print Booty Shorts...not too crazy of a job but definitely not as simple as a Tshirt print. We helped them layout their artwork so that we split the design they had into 2 separate parts so that none of the artwork went over top of the middle seam (since we all know that would just lead to inconsistencies in the print). We also made sure to get a 100% cotton short so that we could use a Pro Discharge White ink, making it easy to print over such a non-flat surface.

The discharge ink bleaches out the dyes in the existing garment, leaving the natural garment color and making the print very smooth with a little to no hand feel. Because the discharge is a waterbased ink, it also is very smooth with printing over uneven surfaces, over seams/zippers but still keeping the print smooth without ink getting all gunked up.

The shorts turned out pretty rad, and best of all, they were stoked and sold out quickly. (must have been the Coachella crowd who bought them out).

Hand Pulled Art Prints for The Dreslyn

Chloe Parks is a graphic artist, set designer, and illustrator based in Los Angeles, CA. She is currently the resident graphic artist at LA’s TheDreslyn.com, a high end independent fashion boutique in the heart of Downtown LA, and her passion for art and design within the context of the fashion industry is growing daily.

The Print Renegades team most recently worked together with Chloe creating some really rad hand pulled Screen Printed 16" x 20"  posters. Basic color design, really rad end result!

These posters were printed using French Pop Tone paper (110# cover) with Permaset Ink, custom Pantone color matched, according to their specifications. Our favorite part about working with artists is their abililty to know exactly what they want, and we act as the medium to take what is in their mind and make it real. 

Print Renegades, producing hand made goods straight out of our shop in the heart of the DTLA Fashion District. 

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros Tour Merch

On March 16th, Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros will share their first live double-album exclusively on BitTorrent Bundle. Live In No Particular Order: 2009 – 2014 features more than two hours of music from performances around the world. We had the great chance to print some merch for them for their concurring touring happening in early spring.

We are always stoked to work with Alex Ebert and the gang. Within the last couple years we have printed various projects for them. They are a very talented and widely renown artists. It is a privilege that they choose our team to carry out some of their fashion products. We are long-time fans of their music and their unique American indie folk style.

Lori Fenn 12 Color Hand Pulled Archival Art Prints

Lori Fenn is a true artist. Based in Phoenix, and after calling dozens of print shops in 3 different states, she finally found us. She told us that she had a 12 color poster job, 24" x 24", and that everyone she called either told her that they wouldn't do it, or it would cost her over $50 per print. As always, we stood out as being the diamond in the rough: the print shop that not only says YES to things most wont touch, but our prices were extremely competitive.

So, off to the races. We were able to cut these posters down ourselves to prep for this job, and given the larger-than-normal number of colors in this particular print, every stage of prep just seemed to take a whole lot longer. Mixing 12 custom Pantone colors, burning 12 'Tier 4' sized screens, registering each color...very time consuming.

The printing process is really a science: it doesnt matter if you are printing a 2 color or 200 color job: the process and steps are all the same, and if you have everything down pat, its like anything else: you get into a rhythm and slowly chip away at the creation process. The cool thing is that as you layer color on top of color on top of color, you are able to see the artwork develop in front of your very eyes. 

This is why we, as printers, love what we do. Yeah, we print for other people, mainly using their own artwork that they have created, but to be able to have a hand in building the art from a production stand point; to create something identically to someone specifications by using the skills artistic abilities that we have: this is the true art of print!
